Classes & Programs

With TTP, choose from classes to delve into your organization's SBI journey or a program for organizational change.
Classes can run from 1/2 a day to five days. A program incorporates a class paired with review and reinforcement experiences to truly enhance learning.
The flagship course is the 5-day Foundations Course. This is designed for anyone interested in obtaining better interviews--investigators, detectives, prosecutors, hostage negotiators.
There are additional classes available for Patrol Officers or stand-alone offerings for anyone interested in improving information yield.
Many of our clients choose to strengthen their own SBI capabilities by developing a cadre of professionals who can analyze interviews and facilitate feedback to colleagues. Check out our full SBI Program for more information.
What our clients are saying:
After being to multiple interview courses I can safely say this was the best. The course combined many techniques I have already learned and adding a whole new perspective to interviewing and interview planning.

Captain Don Dartez, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office
Investigators with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office started their training with Science Based Interviewing (SBI) September of 2023 with Tailored Training Programs. Since then, we have trained 68 detectives or specialized division detectives in the 5-day Foundations Course. One-hundred and fifty patrol and dispatch deputies attended the 1-day training course for a total of 218 employees trained in some form of Science Based Interviewing.
SBI has changed the way detectives in the Special Investigations Division approach interviewing. This approach starts with gathering facts and information, making inferences and creating objectives to provide more pieces of the puzzle the investigator has before talking to anyone.
For years investigators have spent hours combing through crime scenes and gathering other forms of evidence, but then walk into an interview with little information, or with all the information and not knowing how to present it in the interview. Science Based Interviewing has helped the investigator with this.
It has also helped us to understand the psychology behind the person. When I say "the person", I mean both the investigator and the interviewee. Knowing what to say and when to say it is a large part of the interview. The investigator must listen to understand and not listen to reply, because so much information can be lost if we are listening to reply.
Wayne and Lorae, the instructors at Tailored Training Programs have provided an educational insight on interviewing from a research-based approach which has proven to be a more conducive way of interviewing. Special Investigation detectives have embraced the concept, implemented the process and are provided with more information for a complete investigation and interview.
We have also trained 16 investigators as SBI Coaches who can provide feedback and insight in interview planning and analysis on a daily basis in our office. Truly invaluable!

Detective Natasha Anderson, Cold Case Unit, Buffalo Police Department
SBI has truly been the greatest training I have experienced in our police department. I have worked with the department since 2004 and became a sworn officer in 2008. This training is probably the most beneficial to investigations and even just for building rapport and respect with the community.
As a detective who enjoys studying wrongfully convicted cases, SBI is a sure way to prevent such a tragedy in our judicial system.
Interviewing is my favorite part of the job and to have a training by 2 incredible skilled knowledgeable people was such an honor, and I'm even more thankful to be able to assist in coaching law enforcement. My hope is to continue SBI training so I can continue with the one day course and train others in the department and even other agencies.
I am very fortunate to have recently transferred over to the Cold Case Unit. I use a lot of the steps for my basic investigation (not just interviewing). It helps me understand the case and look at the case from a open-minded point of view.
What I value most about SBI is getting to the truth. There's no deceit or trickery, just a way to seek justice and have it stick. I also am more confident and feel more prepared for court.
